The Institute of Interpersonal Hypnotherapy, with headquarters in Tampa, Florida, is pleased to announce the opening of its newest location in Alexandria, Virginia with a first class start-date of February 27th, 2019. The Institute is the first school to be licensed by the Department of Education’s Commission for Independent Education (License #3448) to offer legitimate career diplomas with credentials for Certified Hypnotherapist, Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Certified Transpersonal Hypnotherapist.
Founded by Matthew Brownstein in 2007, the Institute has graduated many hundreds of Hypnotherapists all around the world, and is pleased to bring Interpersonal Hypnotherapy training to the Mid-Atlantic area.
The Institute offers a hybrid style of education where 70% of the training is taken online and 30% is done in-house at our main headquarters or at clinical externship locations, where direct supervision occurs through highly-qualified supervisors and instructors. The distance learning system offers students tremendous flexibility as to when they take their online classes, while the in-house learning provides ample time for hands-on experience.
The training consists of 500 total hours and is broken down into three major programs:
- Hypnotherapist (300 Hours)
- Clinical Hypnotherapist (100 Hours)
- Transpersonal Hypnotherapist (100 Hours)
Hypnotherapy has been acknowledged by the federal government to be a legitimate occupation and no prior degrees are required to become a hypnotherapist. When the Institute of Interpersonal Hypnotherapy became State-Licensed, we became one of the few schools in the Country to work to raise the standards of hypnotherapy education by offering 500+ hours of training and being under the same scrutiny of major colleges, universities and other postsecondary vocational institutes. IIH continues to move ahead with many Counties and Cities through law and legislative work to ensure the free and open practice of hypnotherapy nationwide.
Becoming a Certified Hypnotherapist offers tremendous benefits to successful graduates, and requires NO prior training or degrees. After graduation, students can open their own offices, make their own hours, and own their own business as their own boss. Hypnotherapists generally work within the realm of what are known as “non-therapeutic” uses of hypnosis. These include topics that are not necessarily diagnosed medical, mental health or dental conditions. In this regard, hypnosis has a wide-range of applications, which include but are not limited to: smoking cessation, weight loss, getting a better night’s sleep, overcoming fears and limitations, raising self-esteem, prosperity programming and innumerable other uses that we cannot possibly list here.
When becoming a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, students are trained to work within the law on “therapeutic conditions”, which do include medical, mental health or dental conditions. Many states do not have hypnosis laws, yet we have found that Florida Hypnosis Law gives a solid basis for helping Hypnotherapists to understand that when working on such conditions that a prescription, referral, supervision or direction from a physician, mental health practitioner or dentist is required. Here graduates are trained to work with other medical professionals and in medical settings to use Clinical Hypnotherapy as an integrative approach to wellness. At first students may feel intimidated by entering into this arena, yet with our comprehensive training, we find that many graduates thrive in Clinical practice and love that they are offering such valuable services to the medical community.
Transpersonal Hypnotherapy is where we get to explore all of the metaphysical aspects of hypnosis, which include: past-life regression therapy, life-between-life regression therapy, deep meditative and altered states, as well as many aspects of the world’s great wisdom traditions and spiritual paths. Many of our students love this section of our training as it allows them to be themselves and to bring a deep spirituality into their Hypnotherapy practice. The Transpersonal model opens us up to the idea that we are much more than just physical bodies and that there so much to explore beyond the confines of traditional psychology or medicine.
We encourage students to take the first 4.5 hours of our training online at no cost. This gives you a good feel for if this type of training is right for you and provides an opportunity to gain a comfort level with the online learning environment. Then, for only a $300 deposit ($200 of which is refundable) students gain access to the first 20 hours of the 500 hours of training and through this deposit, have a seat reserved for them in class. Training begins online and then in-house hours occur every six weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) for about nine months. Upon graduation, students walk away as competent Hypnotherapists, with State-Licensed Diplomas, and are ready to open their own practice, work out of a medical or holistic health center, or to simply know that new doors have opened for them and that profound personal and spiritual growth has transpired.
