A personal journey, real student outcomes, and a call for higher standards in the profession.
When people think of hypnosis, they often picture stage shows, quick weekend certifications, or low-cost online programs. The truth is, anyone can read a book or take a short course and call themselves a hypnotist. But when it comes to real hypnotherapy—transformational, professional, and ethical practice—the difference lies in the depth and quality of training.
At the Institute of Interpersonal Hypnotherapy, we emphasize over 500 hours of comprehensive, state-licensed education. Here’s why that matters—and how it changed my life, and the lives of our students and their clients.
My Turning Point
My journey began with a spiritual awakening at the age of 19. I was in college as a liberal arts major trying to find my calling when something significant shifted inside me. I changed my major to philosophy and religion and began devouring every spiritual tradition I could find. I trained in Reiki, studied at two Chinese Medical colleges, and even lived in ashrams and monasteries—including time spent high in the Himalayas.
Yet something still felt missing.
Then one day, I heard it. A clear, undeniable voice within said, “You’re going to become a Hypnotherapist.” I resisted at first. “No,” I thought. “I’m going to be a Doctor of Chinese Medicine.” But the voice was persistent—and wiser than I was at the time. I’ve since learned not to argue with my Higher Self.
That moment launched a career that has since touched thousands of lives—and it all began with deep, immersive training that honored both the science and soul of hypnotherapy.
Why 500 Hours?
Because helping people heal—truly heal—physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, requires more than just scripts or techniques. It requires presence, precision, ethical grounding, and a transformational understanding of the human experience.
Let me share one story that always stays with me. A client came in suffering from ulcerative colitis, driven by intense hypervigilance and a constant alarm response. He was on three anxiety medications and three GI medications. Working in collaboration with his physician, we applied what we teach at IIH—and over time, not only did his symptoms disappear, but his heart returned to peace. His fear dissolved. His body responded.
That level of care isn’t possible from a weekend training.
Our Students Agree
We’ve trained nurses, therapists, caregivers, spiritual seekers, and career changers. Many came to us feeling uncertain, even skeptical. But through our structured curriculum, one-on-one mentorship, and over 500 hours of immersive training, they emerged confident, qualified, and empowered.
Several now run full-time practices, guiding others through trauma resolution, spiritual awakening, and profound personal transformation. They’ve gone on to publish books, speak at conferences, and lead communities—all because they took the time to truly master this work.
Set the Standard, Protect the Profession
Hypnotherapy is powerful. It can be life-changing. And with that power comes responsibility.
That’s why we stand firmly behind state-licensed training—approved by the Department of Education and grounded in academic and clinical rigor. This profession deserves it. Your future clients deserve it. And you deserve it.
So do your research. Ask the right questions. Speak with an admissions advisor. And if you feel called to this work, give it everything you’ve got. Because this path doesn’t just train you for a career—it can awaken your purpose.
